Greenock is a town as well as an administrative centre, part of the Inverclyde area in the West of Scotland, forty miles west of Glasgow & used to be a former burgh with in the county of Renfrewshire. Situated in the west Lowlands of Scotland, it forms part of a contiguous urban area with Gourock to the west and Port Glasgow to the east.
The 2011 UK Census showed that Greenock’s civil population was 44,248, which was lower than the 46,861 recorded in the UK Census of 2001. It lies on the south shores of the River Clyde by the “Tail of the Bank” just where the River Clyde opens into the Firth of Clyde.
