Greenock is an administrative centre & town, part of the Inverclyde council region in the West of Scotland, just west of Glasgow and a former burgh located in the county of Renfrewshire. Situated in the Lowlands of Scotland, it is part of an urban area with Gourock to the west & Port Glasgow lying further east.
The 2011 UK Census indicated that Greenock’s population was 44,248, which was a decrease from the 46,861 returned in the UK Census of 2001. It lies on the south bank of the Clyde by the “Tail of the Bank” where the River Clyde expands into the Firth of Clyde.
