Greenock is an administrative centre and town in the Inverclyde area in the West of Scotland, forty miles west of Glasgow & a former burgh located in the historic county of Renfrewshire. Situated in the west Lowlands of Scotland, it forms part of an urban area with Gourock to the west and Port Glasgow lying further east.
The 2011 UK Census indicated that Greenock had a population of 44,248, which was lower than the 46,861 returned in the UK Census of 2001. It lies on the south bank of the Clyde by the “Tail of the Bank” just where the Clyde expands in to the Firth of Clyde.
