Greenock is an administrative centre as well as a town, part of the Inverclyde area in Scotland, forty miles west of Glasgow and used to be a former burgh with in the historic county of Renfrewshire. Located in the central Lowlands of Scotland, it forms part of an urban area with Gourock to the west and Port Glasgow to the east.
The 2011 UK Census showed that Greenock’s population was 44,248, lower than the 46,861 returned in the UK Census of 2001. It is situated on the south shores of the River Clyde at the “Tail of the Bank” just where the River Clyde opens up in to the Firth of Clyde.
