Greenock is an administrative centre as well as a town in the Inverclyde council region in the West of Scotland, forty miles west of Glasgow & a former burgh with in the historic county of Renfrewshire. Located in the west Lowlands of Scotland, it is part of a contiguous urban area with Gourock to the west and Port Glasgow lying further east.
The 2011 UK Census indicated that Greenock had a civil population was 44,248, a decrease from the 46,861 returned in the UK Census of 2001. It is situated on the south shores of the River Clyde at the “Tail of the Bank” where the Clyde opens up into the Firth of Clyde.
